Studies on the Mechanism of Hydrogen Transport in Animal Tissues I. Triose Phosphate Oxidation in the Presence of Malonate* by v. R. Potter?

چکیده

According to the Szent-Gyorgyi theory’ (2-6) the oxidation of intermediary metabolites in animal tissues takes place through the alternate reduction and oxidation of certain 4-carbon dicarboxylic acids which function catalytically as hydrogen carriers and transport the hydrogen of metabolites to the cytochrome system. The metabolite specifically mentioned is triose phosphate ((2) p. 28) and the 4-carbon acids are oxalacetic, malic, fumaric, and succinic. According to the theory, the oxidation of triose phosphate should be represented by the following equations, which may or may not represent direct reactions.

Studies on the Mechanism of Hydrogen Transport in Animal Tissues

1. The mechanism of succinic dehydrogenase action was studied by means of inhibitors. 2. The enzyme is inhibited by a large number of diverse compounds whose only common denominator appears to be their ability to react with SH groups. These compounds include quinonoid structures, sulfhydryl reagents, sulfhydryl compounds, copper, zinc, selenite, and arsenite. 3. In contrast to the above inhibit...

Electrosynthesis of Clozapine Drug Derivative via an EC Electrochemical Mechanism

The fact that oxidation, as one of the main routes of phase I metabolism of drugs, follows by conjugation reactions, and also formation of nitrenium ion as one of the clozapine oxidation products, directed us to investigate the oxidation of clozapine (CLZ) in the presence of nucleophile. The oxidation of clozapine (CLZ) has been studied on a glassy carbon electrode in the absence and presence o...

Molecular Interaction Studies of Ammonium Dihydrogen Phosphate in the Aqueous Solutions of Mono, Di and Triprotic Acids – An Ultrasonic Study

Aqueous solutions of mono, di, and triprotic acids were prepared with different molar percentages (say 10%, 20% and 30%). ammonium dihydrogen phosphate is gradually introduced in the aqueous solutions at different concentrations varied from 0.1M to 0.6M at 303K. Densities, viscosities, and velocity of sound of aqueous solutions are measured and they are used to evaluate the other parameters lik...

Malonate inhibition of oxidations in the Krebs tricarboxylic acid cycle.

The inhibition of succinate oxidation by malonate is a well known phenomenon. Since the oxidation of succinate to fumarate is an integral part of the Krebs cycle of oxidations, it has been generally assumed that the inhibitory effect of malonate upon the oxidation of any member of the cycle is the result of the inhibition of the succinate to fumarate step. However, the present paper provides ev...

The investigation of pyrocatechol electrochemical mechanism in presence of nitrite ion on platinum electrode

In this study, the electrochemical mechanism of catechol in presence and absence of nitrite ion, is investigated in phosphate buffer medium (pH=7) using platinum electrode through cyclic voltammetry method in various scan rates. Electrochemical oxidation of catechol showed how quinone has changed to o-benzoquinone and also how o-benzoquinone has reacted with nitrite ion and potential scan rate ...
